Research Eligibility NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA

SHARC is currently recruiting participants for multiple studies in the following cities:

GAINESVILLE:



Anchors Eligibility

Test a new computer and phone-based intervention. ANCHORS includes three variations: web-survey, focus groups/one-on-one, and usability study.

(1) Web Survey: We will ask for you to complete an online survey on substance use and sexual behavior.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • 18-30 years old
  • Male who had sex with another male in last 3 months
  • HIV-negative

Time Commitment:

30 minutes

(2) Focus Groups/One-on-One: We will ask for you to complete 2 web surveys on substance use and sexual behavior. You will also be asked to discuss opinions/ feedback on surveys with a group of peers or with study staff member.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • 18-30 years old
  • Male who had sex with another male in last 3 months
  • HIV-negative

Time Commitment:

2 hours

(3) Usability Study: We will ask for you to complete 2 web surveys on substance use and sexual behavior and a daily 5 minute phone assessment for 30 days. You will also be asked to discuss opinions/ feedback with study staff.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • 18-30 years old
  • Male who had sex with another male in last 3 months
  • HIV-negative
  • At least 5 drinks in the past month
  • Unprotected intercourse with another man in the past month
  • Willing to try PrEP for the 1st time

Time Commitment:

The initial visit is 1 hour and the follow up is 1 hour. You will be actively involved for 30 days.

ARCH II ELIGIBILITY

Looking at the effects alcohol on the brain and the effect of motivational interviewing to develop healthier alcohol levels. We will ask for a blood sample and an MRI scan. You will answer questions about your health and well-being and complete thinking and memory tasks.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • 21-55 years old
  • Willing to discuss your HIV status
  • Someone who drinks alcohol

Time Commitment:

  • Study visit: ~4 hours
  • MRI Scan: ~1.5 hours
  • Follow up visit: 1 year later

aware ELIGIBILITY

Test effectiveness of a new wrist alcohol monitor. We will ask for you to attend 1 in-person screening, 2 drinking sessions (you will be provided dinner and an Uber to and from visits) and use an alcohol wristband monitor for 2 weeks.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • 21+ years old
  • Willing to discuss your HIV status
  • Someone who drinks alcohol at least once a week

Time Commitment:

  • Screening session: 2 hour visit 
  • Drinking session: ~5 hours (you will be provided dinner and an Uber to and from visits)
  • Use alcohol wristband monitor and phone app for 2 weeks

Flex ELIGIBILITY

Looking at the effects of alcohol on the brain. We will ask for a blood sample and MRI scan. You will also answer questions about your health and well-being, complete thinking and memory tasks and possibly attend a motivational interview session.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • 21-55 years old

Time Commitment:

  • Study visits: one 5 hour visit repeated at 3, 6 & 12-months 
  • MRI Scan: ~1.5 hours repeated 6 months later
  • Motivational Interview: ~1 hour repeated 3 months later

Florida Cohort ELIGIBILITY

Learn which factors influence health in Floridians. We will ask you to answer questions about your healthcare, alcohol use and health behaviors.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Willing to discuss your HIV status

Time Commitment:

  • Study visits: ~1.5 hours
  • Follow up visits: 6 & 12-months

MAPLE eligibility

Looking at long-term health effects of marijuana on health. We will ask for blood and urine samples. You will also answer questions about your health and well-being and complete thinking and memory tasks.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Willing to discuss your HIV status
  • User or non-user of marijuana

Time Commitment:

  • Study visits: ~4 hours (can be split into 2 visits)
  • Follow up visits: once a year for 5 years

rogue Eligibility

Understand the relationship between the gut microbiome and brain function. We will ask for a blood, urine, stool and saliva sample as well as an MRI scan. You will also answer questions about your health and well-being and complete thinking and memory tasks.

You may be eligible if you are:

  • 35-85 years old
  • Able to have an MRI scan

Time Commitment:

  • Study visits: one 5 hour visit and one 2 hour visit
  • Follow up visit: 1 year

OCALA:




Florida Cohort ELIGIBILITY
