SHARC Welcomes: Bruno Diniz E Silva

Visiting Scholar

Bruno Diniz E Silva

What research topics/interests have brought you to UF?

My research background and primary interests focus on microbiology/virology, specifically in HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and COVID-19. During my master’s, I developed expertise in designing and implementing strategies for effective STI surveillance, especially in hard-to-reach populations. This experience underscored the critical need for adaptable, culturally sensitive approaches to public health in virology. At UF, I am eager to expand my research in this area, leveraging the university’s robust resources and collaborative environment to explore innovative methods for detecting, preventing, and managing STIs among underserved populations. This aligns with my long-term goal of contributing to inclusive public health solutions that address infectious disease challenges on a global scale.

What goals do you hope to meet in your time here? Do you have anything you would like to accomplish?

I would also like to deepen my knowledge of microbiology, maybe by taking some classes, visiting some laboratories, and even doing an unpaid internship. I would also like to visit the College of Pharmacy. Since I have a major in Pharmacy, it would be great to see how pharmacy undergraduate students study here.

Which people might you want to collaborate with? Do you have any research topics you are wanting to collaborate on?

I am really glad to collaborate with Dr. Cook. We have been discussing some data I brought from Brazil, and we’re excited to write some papers together. I have also seen some other interesting researchers at EPI and UF, like Dr. John Lednicky, who has studies with different viruses, Dr. Charles Peloquin from the College of Pharmacy, and Dr. Mattia Prosperi, who has experience with HIV and phylogenetic analyses. My e-mails are bdinizesilva@ufl.edu and dinizbruno1410@gmail.com.
